Underwood Finishes Sixth in Buchanan Voting

Illinois State football standout Colton Underwood, a first-team All-American and a first-team all-MVFC selection, was the highest vote-getter for the league in the Buck Buchanan Award balloting, announced today by the Sports Network.

Underwood, a junior defensive end, leads the MVFC in sacks (10.5) and tackles-for-loss (19.5), currently ranks No. 13 in the country in sacks and is tied for No. 12 in the FCS in tackles-for-loss. The 2012 Buck Buchanan Award nominee was an All-Missouri Valley Football Conference First-Team selection and a MVFC All-Academic Second-Team pick. He recorded at least one sack in eight games and a tackle-for-loss in nine games, with five multiple tackle-for-loss performances and finished the season ranked second on the team with 95 tackles.

Underwood was one of three MVFC finalists for the award. League Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Williams finished ninth in the balloting and South Dakota's Tyler Starr was 20th.
