Boothby Claims FCS ADA Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Ben Boothby, a defensive tackle from the University of Northern Iowa, and Mitch Allen, a quarterback from Wofford College, have been chosen as the recipients of the 11th Annual Division I Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

North Dakota State (13-1) will face Sam Houston State (14-0) for the national championship Jan. 7 in Frisco, Texas. It is the first FCS title game appearance for the Bison, who moved up to Division I in 2004. The Bison beat Georgia Southern, 35-7, on Saturday to reach the title game.

North Dakota State is looking to become the first Valley Football team to go 4-0 since 2007 when the Bison open league play against Illinois State. Four league games dot the schedule this week.

Four Valley Football Teams Ranked This Week
Four MVFC schools are ranked in the FCS Top 25 polls this week. UNI is the top-rated MVFC school, checking in at No. 2 in both polls (behind Georgia Southern). North Dakota State (5/6), Southern Illinois (12/12) and Indiana State (24/23) also represent the league.

Bison Roll at Minnesota; Home Teams Prevail in League Play
It was an historic day in the league, marked by two games on the MVFC's digital platform "Valley Live." Four league games dotted the schedule and the home team won all four games, while North Dakota State played the league's lone non-conference game and won impressively at Minnesota.

Penguins Win MVFC Opener; Sycamores Topple FBS Team
For the second-straight year, a Missouri Valley Football Conference school defeated an FBS program as Indiana State knocked off Western Kentucky, 44-16, on Saturday. It marked ISU's first win against an FBS school since 2001. Youngstown State, meanwhile, knocked off Illinois State in the conference opener for both schools.

League Goes 6-3; YSU Has Record-Setting Day
Missouri Valley Football Conference teams combined for an impressive 6-3 record on Saturday, as all five home teams posted wins, while #3 UNI scored an impressive 34-23 win at #16 Stephen F. Austin. Youngstown State scored 77 points in its win against Valparaiso, setting a host of school records.

Valley Records Three Wins Saturday
The Valley picked up its first three wins of the season, finishing with a .500 record in Saturday football action. North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Southern Illinois were all victorious, while Indiana State, Missouri State and UNI all fell to BCS teams.

Youngstown State Falls 28-6 to No. 17 Michigan State in Opener
Youngstown State battled for its most competitive game against a BCS opponent in the last seven seasons, but No. 17 Michigan State was too much in a 28-6 victory over the Penguins in front of 75,910 fans at Spartan Stadium on Friday night.

Valley Football Opens 2011 Season on Sept. 1
The 27th season of MVFC football begins Thursday, Sept. 1, with a pair of games. Illinois State travels to Eastern Illinois in an historic game, while Western Illinois also opens on the road, at Sam Houston State. Four games next week are against FBS opponents on the road.

Illinois State-Eastern Illinois to Play Game 100
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The college football rivalry between Illinois State and Eastern Illinois will have a bit more significance in 2011, as the two in-state foes will meet for the 100th time this fall. To commemorate the milestone, the rivalry was officially re-branded as the Mid-America Classic and a traveling trophy was unveiled on Tuesday.
