NFF Announces 2010 Hampshire Honor Society Membership
The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced today the members of the 2010 NFF Hampshire Honor
#$%^Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a 3.2 GPA or better. A
#$%^total of 620 players from 246 schools qualified for membership, including 16 in the MVFC.

College Sporting News Selects "Fabulous 50" All-Americans
Fifty players and head coach Henry Frazier III make up the 2009 edition of the Fabulous Fifty Team for Division I Football Championship Subdivision All-American honors from College Sporting News as selected by staff members. Including the honorable mention selections, 138 student-athletes from 70 schools are represented. Three MVFC student-athletes made the list of 50.

Coach Jon Heacock Steps Down as Youngstown State Football Coach
Nine-year Youngstown State University Head Football Coach Jon Heacock announced on Sunday that he is stepping down. Heacock guided the program to a 60-44 record during his tenure, which was highlighted by a trip to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision playoff semifinals in 2006. A national search to replace Heacock will begin immediately.

Indiana State Ends Streak at 33 Games With 17-14 Victory
Indiana State ended the nation's longest Division I losing streak with a three-point victory against visiting Western Illinois. Elsewhere, both nationally ranked Southern Illinois and South Dakota State improved to 5-0 in the conference with wins against Youngstown State (27-8) and No. 6 UNI (24-14), respectively. The Missouri Valley Football Conference announced today that North Dakota State University football student-athlete Pat Paschall has been suspended for one game for fighting in the fourth quarter of NDSU's game against Northern Iowa on Oct. 10, 2009.

Missouri Valley Football Conference Notebook (Oct. 12)
UNI (3-0) hosts Southern Illinois (3-0) this Saturday in Cedar Falls. The winner of the SIU-UNI game has won the league in six of the past eight years. The league's other perfect team so far - South Dakota State (3-0) - hosts North Dakota State this weekend (and the Jackrabbits also have home games later with UNI and SIU.)

On Saturday, Oct. 10, the league's three ranked teams all posted wins in league play as UNI, Southern Illinois and South Dakota State all improved to 3-0 in conference play. Youngstown State built a huge lead and then hung on to defeat visiting Western Illinois.

Panthers Rated No. 1 in Season's First GPI Rankings
Chicago, Ill. - The Gridiron Power Index (GPI), the index ranking for the NCAA Division I FCS and a top indicator of at-large playoff selection debuts for the 2009 season with the University of Northern Iowa in the top spot. Two other Valley Football schools are in the Top 16, including Southern Illinois (8) and South Dakota State (13).

This week's Missouri Valley Football Conference Players of the Week are WR Eyad Salem of Illinois State, DE Waylon Richardet of Missouri State, punter Kevin Mazur of Illinois State, and OG David Arkin of MSU. Missouri State won for the first-ever time at Youngstown State, while Illinois State beat North Dakota State fore the first time in school history (in three tries).

Panthers, Salukis Both Roll to Move Into First-Place Tie
League-leaders and nationally ranked UNI and Southern Illinois kept pace with one another with convincing wins on Saturday, while No. 15 South Dakota State -- also 2-0 in the MVFC -- suffered a 21-14 defeat at No. 17 Cal Poly. Missouri State notched an historic win, beating Youngstown State at Stambaugh for the first time in school history, while Eyad Salem had a record day with 14 catches in ISU's win in Fargo.

Near-Perfect Night Highlights Valley Football
South Dakota State shut out Indiana State, 41-0, in the first conference game of the 2009 season, but the league combined for a 6-1 non-conference mark in the final prep weekend of non-conference competition. All three ranked MVFC teams won on Saturday, by a combined score of 130-7.

ISU's Kiel To Have Surgery on Injured Thumb

Upset Bids Against FBS Schools Come Up Just Short
All five games Saturday featured Valley Football matchups against FBS schools on the road, and although the league failed to win a game, two results (SIU lost at Marshall by 3; and UNI fell at No. 21 Iowa by 1) went down to the wire. UNI's upset bid was thrwarted by two blocked FG tries in the final seven seconds.

Record-Setting Night Lifts Western Illinois, 35-28
Three Missouri Valley Football Conference schools opened play on Thursday night, and the combo of Western Illinois QB Matt Barr and WR Lilo Senatus provided some highlights - as Barr passed for 437 yards, while Senatus had 235 receiving yards in a 35-28 victory over Sam Houston State.
