2008 Missouri Valley Football All-Newcomer Team

ST. LOUIS — For the first time in six seasons and only second time in league history, players from the same school have earned the Missouri Valley Football Conference's top newcomer honors.  QB Brandon Summers is the third Penguin to earn the league’s Newcomer of the Year honor since 2005, while RB Kamryn Keys is the first Youngstown State player to earn the league’s 10-year-old Freshman of the Year honor.  Only once previously (2002) have players from the same school won the Missouri Valley's Newcomer and Freshman honor.

The duo heads a list of 23 student-athletes named to the 2008 Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team.  League coaches, sports information directors and a media panel selected the team.  The top 11 vote-getters on offense and defense, plus ties, were named to the team.

Keys started six games and set a Youngstown State record for rushing yards by a freshman with 804 on 136 attempts.  He averaged 5.9 yards per rush and had 100-yard games against North Dakota State, Missouri State, UNI and Indiana State.  Summers, meanwhile, threw 18 TD passes, tying for the most in a regular season in YSU history, while playing in just 10 games.  He completed 122-of-195 passes for 1,540 yards and ran for 190 yards on 77 attempts with three touchdowns.  He set a YSU record with a pass efficiency of 152.18.
